Ingredients

1 Can peeled tomatoes
1 Green pepper, seeded & sliced
1 Large onion, sliced & chunked
4 Tablespoons butter
1 Pound ground beef
1 Bottle Heinz chili sauce
1 Bay leaf
4 Tablespoons chili powder
1 (4 oz) Can sliced mushrooms

Instructions

Saut green pepper and onions in butter for about 5 minutes, stirring to prevent burning; when translucent, add hamburger and mix and cook until hamburger is nearly all brown. Add tomatoes by crushing them in your hands before you put them in the pan. Add the chili sauce, the bay leaf, the chili powder, the mushrooms and a T. of sugar. Cook on medium low heat, stirring occasionally; until a clear liquid forms on the top. This is fat and can easily be removed by putting the Sloppy Billy in the fridge. When fat cools, you can just pick it off the top. This is best served over toasted bread or rolls.
